‘Greenwood die chants from fans is bit too much’ – Fans react as Mason Greenwood goes through insane chants from opposition fans during La Liga debut

Mason Greenwood played his first professional game after 18 months for his new club Getafe FC.

In the 77th minute of Azulones’ 3-2 victory over Osasuna on Sunday, Greenwood came off the bench. The Red Devils forward on loan played his first competitive encounter for the first time since his arrest in January 2022.

The teenage English attacker, who had been cleared of all accusations relating to sexual assault, signed a loan deal with Getafe from Manchester United in the summer. Important witnesses are said to have left the case.

In an image uploaded on his Instagram account, Diallo expressed his excitement at making his La Liga debut. He added two love heart emojis as captions to a photo of the 21-year-old being put on.

During his brief 13-minute appearance, Greenwood attempted three crosses but failed, blocking one shot. After not playing football for more than a year, Getafe is going to be eager for him to accumulate playing time. Shortly after his conviction, Greenwood was the subject of an internal inquiry at Manchester United. There were rumours suggesting the Red Devils had intentions to bring him back into the starting lineup, but they made a U-turn after facing harsh criticism.

At Old Trafford, Greenwood played in 129 games for various managers and contributed 12 assists in addition to 35 goals. He spent some time with Diallo in the club’s development programme when the Ivorian joined from Serie A team Atlanta in 2021.

During the 77th minute of the match, when the scoreline was 2-2 and there were approximately 13 minutes of extra time, a tiny group of Osasuna supporters momentarily yelled, “Greenwood, die!” when he was introduced.

Whistles generated by Getafe supporters, who were left ecstatic by Greenwood’s debut in which he shown glimpses of pace and a desire to rush at opponents, quickly drowned them out.

Every time he received the ball, excitement filled the ground. He completed two attacks on the left full-back by cutting across the front towards the right when a shot was blocked, resulting in Getafe earning the corner. Nemanja Maksimovic headed the winning goal in the 85th minute from that corner.
