Mason Greenwood, the Manchester United forward, was charged with several charges after allegations of rape that rattled the entire club and its fans. To add more, the 21-year-old was charged with rape charges, eventually leading to Nike and Electronic Arts taking several actions against the youngster. 

Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), much to the surprise of the fans, revealed that they had to stop the case due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and a new material that came to light, which reportedly forced them to drop all charges against Greenwood. For the unversed, while Nike terminated the sponsorship deal, the EA clarified that the forward was removed from the FIFA World Cup 2022 game. 

Greater Manchester Police, on the other hand, clarified would not be taking the decision to drop all cases lightly and said would follow up on the same, not commenting unless informed. Chief Superintendent Michaela Kerr clarified that it was just from their point of view to update on the issue given that the Greenwood saga was widely covered all over the country.

Greenwood clarified that he was relieved about the issue coming to an end and thanked his family for standing beside him right throughout the issue. The Red Devils, on the other hand, said in their statement that they have taken note of the CPS action and would complete the process in the mean time, refusing to comment further. 

“I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support. There will be no further comment at this time,” Greenwood was quoted as saying in the statement by Sky Sports. 

“Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped. The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete,” the Manchester United management was quoted as saying in their statement. Fans, on the other hand, were divided as a few sided with the victim, claiming that the fault was well with Greenwood.
