On March 4 and 5, the 13th Mr Junior Bodybuilding Competition took place. The event’s invitation card lists Prahlad Patel, the city’s BJP mayor, as a member of the organizing committee and Chaitanya Kashyap, a lawmaker, as the sponsor. Women bodybuilders were seen standing in front of a cut-out of Lord Hanuman in a video of the event that has been going viral online. Piyush Babele, the media aide to Kamal Nath, the leader of the Madhya Pradesh Congress, demanded an apology from Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, saying that the occasion was his birthday.
Women bodybuilders posed in front of a picture of Lord Hanuman during the bodybuilding competition in Madhya Pradesh, which sparked a stir. As part of the “purification” of the venue in Ratlam, Congress workers sprinkled “Ganga jal” at the site of the bodybuilding competition organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). They recited “Hanuman Chalisa,” alleging that doing so was an insult to Lord Hanuman, the celibate patron deity of the sport.
The bodybuilding competition sparked a political controversy
“The name of the trophy for obscenity is the chief minister’s trophy. Will you apologize, or are you behind all this?” Babele said in a tweet.
Hitesh Bajpai, a BJP spokesman for the state, claimed that Congress opposed women succeeding in sports. Bajpai said, “Congressmen cannot see women taking part in wrestling, gymnastics or swimming because the devil inside them awakens by seeing this. They look at women on the playground with dirty eyes. Aren’t they ashamed?”
Babele said his party would boycott Bajpai in television debates for “supporting obscenity”. “Your silence on this obscenity of BJP is embarrassing Hinduism. Why are you silent on the insult of Bajrang Bali?” Babele asked in another tweet, mentioning the official Twitter handles of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, RSS, and other prominent BJP leaders.
