‘Frustration started creeping in’ – Virat Kohli thanks Anushka Sharma, Vamika for getting him through rough phase
‘I wanted to play in a certain way, according to the expectations of everyone and mine as well,’ he added.
Virat Kohli, the Indian superstar, scored his 73rd international century against Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the three-match series on January 10, Tuesday. For the unversed, the Indian batter scored 113 runs and helped the team put on 373 runs on the board after being forced to bat first in the first innings, eventually winning the game on 67 runs.
Post the conclusion of the game, Suryakumar Yadav and Kohli joined hands to have an interaction with each other. The Indian cricket board shared the video on their social media account and one has to agree that it was an interaction that cannot be missed. The unorthodox batter requested the 34-year-old to take the fans through the two-year journey where Kohli struggled to score runs.
The Indian batter was quick enough to respond to the question by thanking his wife Anushka Sharma and his daughter Vamika. Saying that pushing back helped him to get the much-needed clarity, Kohli advised the fans to take a step back when life expects them to proceed. Further, Kohli said that it was unfair on Anushka to keep her in a space where he was not happy at all.
I think it’s not fair on the people that support you: Virat Kohli
Kohli further highlighted putting things into perspective, what he worked on and eventually took the fans through his journey. One has to agree that it was not only his fans but the entire cricketing world who awaited the Indian superstar’s comeback, unwilling to see the batter struggle to get back to form.
“Sometimes what happens is that you’ll experience it too as you are playing regularly now, people start to expect you to perform every time. They are like he will certainly do the job and, to keep up with those expectations is a very intense process. When your cricket is going well, everything else falls into place but as soon as there is a dip, frustration starts to creep in,” Kohli was quoted as saying in the video to Suryakumar.
“In my case too, frustration started creeping in. I wanted to play in a certain way, according to the expectations of everyone and mine as well. But cricket was not allowing me to do that and hence I found myself way too far from where my game was. My attachments and desires had totally taken over. And that is when I realised that I can’t be totally away from who I am and I can’t live in denial. Because, in my case, it brought me more frustration. I was getting very cranky, very snappy in my space which was not fair on anyone around me- Anushka and closed ones,” he added.
