Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of India, has acknowledged that Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, is a very excellent player and believes India would need to bowl effectively against him in both the Asia Cup and the World Cup. However, he claimed that India has a strong bowling lineup that can put Pakistan’s skipper to the test.
On Saturday at Pallekele, the Asia Cup 2023’s Group A matchup between India and Pakistan is scheduled to take place. Depending on qualifying, they could also compete in the Super Fours. The two bitter rivals will also square off in an ODI World Cup match on October 14 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

Sourav Ganguly spoke to Star Sports ahead of the epic clash between the two rivals. He spoke about how India has to tackle Babar Azam and praised the Indian bowling attack. He said that, “He is a good player; there is no doubt about it. They [India] will have to bowl at him [during the World Cup]. Before that, they will have to bowl at him in the Asia Cup. India will have plans for him, we have a good bowling attack. [Jasprit] Bumrah, [Mohammed] Shami, [Mohammed] Siraj is a serious fast bowling attack.”
The former India skipper discussed how crucial it is for Babar Azam to score runs against the Indian team as they would be up against a strong bowling line-up. He said, “Babar will also have to bat well to score runs against them because he knows they are up against a good fast bowling attack. India will have to bowl well to Babar Azam and vice-versa.”
The left-handed batter discussed the express pace and swing of the Pakistan bowling attack ahead of the World Cup. He said, “Pakistan has got a very good bowling attack – Naseem [Shah, [Shaheen] Afridi and Haris Rauf. They are a good fast bowling attack just like India. So they are a good bowling attack as well and India will have to bat well against them,”
