Five cricketers who lost their lives in a car accident
Several cricketers in the past have met fatal accidents.
Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant met with an accident early morning on Friday. The wicketkeeper batter managed to escape a near-fatal accident as he broke the car’s window and escaped from the burning four-wheeler. However, Pant is not the first cricketer to have met an accident while driving a car. Several cricketers in the past have met fatal accidents. As the cricketing fraternity wishes for a speedy recovery of Pant, let’s take a look at five cricketers who lost their lives in car accidents:
5 Runako Morton

West Indies batter Runako Morton lost his life in a road accident in March 2012 after his car crashed into a utility pole on the Solomon Hochoy Highway in Chase Village in central Trinidad. Morton represented West Indies in 15 Tests, 56 ODIs and 7 T20Is. His last appearance for his country came against Australia in a T20I in 2010. He scored 573 runs in 15 Tests at an average of 22.03 with four half-centuries. He had a better record as a one-day player, scoring 1519 runs at an average of 33.75 with two centuries and ten fifties. He also scored 96 runs in seven T20Is.
4 Ben Hollioake

Hollioake died in a car accident in Perth in March 2022. He was driving a Porsche which crashed on Mill Point Road in South Perth. The car spun out of control and hit a brick wall just after the Kwinana off-ramp. His girlfriend received head and chest injuries and had to spend three weeks in a coma, but she came out of it.
Hollioake played two Tests and 20 ODIs for England and scored 44 and 309 runs respectively.
3 Manjural Islam Rana

The left-arm spinner represented Bangladesh in six Tests and 25 ODIs and picked up 5 and 23 wickets respectively. He was just 22-year-old when he passed away in March, 2007 and was the youngest Test cricketer to die. According to reports Manjural, was on a motorbike in Khulna when he lost his balance and collided with an oncoming bus.
He made his ODI debut in November 2003 at the age of 19 and took the wicket of Michael Vaughan on his third ball. It was the first time that any Bangladesh player had taken a wicket in his first international over.
2 Ezra Moseley

The West Indies pacer passed away at the age of 63 in February 2021 after his bicycle was hit by a car in a tragic road accident. He played two Tests and nine ODIs for West Indies and picked up 6 and 7 wickets respectively.
1 Andrew Symonds

Andrew Symonds was an integral part of the Australian team in the first decade of 2010. Symonds made his debut for Australia in 1998 but his first remarkable performance came in the 2003 World Cup against Pakistan where he scored an unbeaten 143. Symonds represented Australia in 26 Tests, 198 ODIS and 14 T20Is. He averaged almost 40 with the bat in all three formats scoring 1462, 5088 and 337 runs respectively. Symonds was part of Australia’s 2003 and 2007 world cup winning teams.
Symonds also rolled his arm over on a number of occasions and picked up 165 wickets in his career. The allrounder passed away earlier this year in May at the age of 46 after a single-vehicle auto accident near Townsville in northeast Australia.
