‘Finally ek match toh jeeta Australia ne’ – Fans react as Australia triumph against Sri Lanka by 5 wickets during ODI World Cup 2023 contest

Australia have finally established themselves on the ODI World Cup 2023 stage after amazing victory against Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka met Australia in Lucknow for a crucial encounter in the ODI World Cup 2023 today. Australia entered this game in dire need of a victory. Also in need of a boost was the Sri Lanka side. Both the nations have two losses from their opening two games and are desperate for a win this time around.

As both of Sri Lanka’s openers reached fifty, the team was cruising. However, Pat Cummins afterwards took out both of the starters. After a mediocre start, Adam Zampa pulled himself together. Maxwell completed it after Mitchell Starc nicked a few at the very end. None of the remaining batters showed up, other from the two openers.

Neither the gifted Sadeera Samarawickrama nor Kusal Mendis contributed anything significant. The Australian bowlers deserve praise as well. It should be noted that 6 out among the 9 wickets that went to bowlers ended up being either LBW or bowled indicates that they delivered wicket to wicket.

The five-time champions were never going to be afraid with a target of 210. However, Dilshan Madushanka undoubtedly had other plans for today. He got things started by removing Warner and Smith from the same area. He exerted pressure at one end throughout his opening two maiden overs.

Although Mitchell Marsh struck a rapid fifty runs before running himself out, his spell gave the Lankans the upper hand. The anchor was Labuschagne, and Josh Inglis played with a free spirit. The Australians had it easy thanks to Inglis’ maiden WC fifty.

Near the end, both Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell entered. Both came out firing as they completed the task for their country. Due to their cameos, the game ended quickly with Australia prevailing during the 36th over. This would undoubtedly greatly benefit the squad and their NRR. Australia eventually won the match with 88 balls remaining and 5 wickets in hand.
