On 11 December 2022, England took on France in the ongoing FIFA World Cup. It was the fourth quarter-final of the ongoing tournament that took place in Al Bayt Stadium. England were coming off after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Senegal. On the other hand, defending champions, France registered a 3-1 victory over Poland.
So, fans were eagerly waiting to see these sides in action on the biggest stage of Football. Big-name players like Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe, and Olivier Giroud were in action. France fans were very optimistic that their side was capable enough to defend this title this time around in Qatar.

Speaking of the match, Olivier Giroud managed a header in the 11th minute while Antoine Griezmann delivered a beautiful goal. But, his attempt ended at the hands of England’s goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford. Then, in the 17th minute, Aurelien Tchouameni produced a moment of brilliance as he opened the scoring for France.
He hit a shot from outside of the box into the bottom-left corner of the goal and thus, France got a 1-0 lead over the three lions. Griezmann provided that assist in the build-up. In the 26th minute, Upamecano came up with a clumsy challenge on Harry Kane. But, VAR overruled any decision of penalty in favor of England. After that, in the 29th minute, Harry Kane managed a shot at the goal. But, France’s goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris made a comfortable save to deny him. Thus, the first half ended 1-0. In the second half, England looked very threatening from the beginning. In the 47th minute, Jude Bellingham hit a volley against which Lloris came up with a solid save.
Then, Harry Kane opened the scoring for England from the spot in the 54th minute. After that in the 55th minute, Adrien Rabiot got a chance to score the second goal for France. but, Pickford did not have any trouble in saving it. Then, in the 78th minute, Giroud scored the second goal for the defending champions. Griezmann again came up with the assist. But, in the 81st minute, England got another penalty to equalize the game. But, Hary Kane made a mess of it as he failed to hit the target. After that, France hold their nerves and the game ended 2-1 in favor of them.
