England took on Senegal in the ongoing FIFA World Cup on 5 November 2022. It was the fourth clash in the Round of 16 that took place in Al Bayt Stadium. England managed to seal the top spot in Group B. They managed seven points with two wins and one draw. On the other hand, Senegal finished in the second spot in Group A.
They collected six points with two wins out of their three games. They impressed everyone by qualifying for the Round of 16 despite not having their main man, Sadio Mane at the front. So, fans were hoping for another top performance against a quality side like England in this World Cup.

Senegal looked more attacking than England since the kickoff. In the fourth minute, Boulaye Dia had a chance to score. But, Harry Maguire managed to deny him by sending the ball back to Jordan Pickford. Then, in the 23rd minute, Ismaila Sarr’s effort ended up over the bar. After that, another chance came for Senegal when Dia had a shot in the 31st minute. But, Pickford came up with a huge save for England.
But, England took lead in the 38th minute when Jordan Henderson scored the goal. It was a perfect finish while Jude Bellingham assisted him. However, it did not take them much more time to double the lead. Harry Kane scored the second goal for England while Phil Foden managed the assist in that buildup. It was Harry Kane’s first goal in this World Cup for England. He also became the highest goal scorer for England in major tournaments with this goal. Thus, the first half ended 2-0.
In the second half, England came up with a mindset to kill the game with one more goal. They did so in the 57th minute when Bukayo Saka scored the third goal for England. Phil Foden came up with his second assist in that clash as it was a beautiful ball into the box for Saka. It was Saka’s third goal in this tournament. However, Senegal did not manage any chances in the remaining minutes as England held that lead till the final whistle. Finally, they won the match by 3-0 and set up their quarter-final clash with the defending champions, France.
