Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal made a winning start to their World Cup campaign. They won against Ghana with a margin of 3-2. Cristiano Ronaldo also scored a goal.
Thus, he became the first-ever player to score in five different World Cups. On the other hand, Uruguay only managed a goalless draw with South Korea. So, Portugal were looking to qualify in the next round. In contrast, Uruguay were looking to get their first three points in this tournament.

But, he failed to convert that attempt into a goal, thanks to the Portugal keeper Diogo Costa’s brilliant save. In the 36th minute, Benancur had another chance to score.
But, his attempt missed the target as it went wide. Ronaldo and his teammates failed to create any significant chances as the first half of the game ended 0-0. Fans were hoping to see a better performance from Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates in the second half. They managed to have a good start as Joao Felix had a shot in the 52nd minute. But, it ended with the side netting only. Then, in the 54th minute, Bruno Fernandes scored the opener for his country. He delivered a beautiful cross into the box for Ronaldo. Then, the Portuguese superstar jumped and thought that he had touched the ball which went into the goal. Thus, Ronaldo thought that it was his goal as he celebrated also.
But, later it got confirmed that he did not have a touch as Bruno was the goal scorer. After that, Uruguay managed many close chances. But, they were unfortunate not to convert those chances. It went worse for them when Portugal got a penalty in the 90th minute. After monitoring a handball call from Portugal, the referee awarded the penalty to them. Then, Bruno Fernandes scored his brace from the spot and ensured Portugal’s 2-0 victory over Uruguay. However, the post denied him a hat trick also in the 90+8′ minute.
