‘Farewell? Aise na bolo yaar’ – Fans fail to digest MS Dhoni’s ‘Eden Gardens crowd has given me farewell’ statement

Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni once again hinted at his retirement from IPL after the ongoing season. Ahead of the season, it was reported that he might retire from the league after the 2023 season. He is only playing in the cash-rich league since his retirement from international cricket in 2020. From then till now, the team finished second last twice (2020 and 2022) and lifted the title once (2021).

In the ongoing season, they are on the top of the points table for the first time since 2021. They have won five games out of seven. Meanwhile, after his side, CSK thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders by 49 runs. While the MS Dhoni-led side got immense support from the crowd, Dhoni also hinted at his retirement from the game in the post-match presentation.

“Thanks for the support and they [crowd] came in big numbers. Whenever there’s a next KKR game, they will come supporting them.

“thanks alot to the Eden Gardens crowd. They came to give me a farewell,” Dhoni said in the post-match presentation.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time MSD has hinted at his retirement. After the home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the right-hander said that he is enjoying the last phase of his career

“All said and done, it’s the last phase of my career, however long I play [On the roar and crowd support]. After two years, the fans have had the opportunity to come here and watch, feels good to be here. Crowd has given us a lot of love and affection. Not getting enough chances to bat, but no complaints,” the former India skipper after the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

While there is no confirmation of Dhoni’s retirement, the fans are already saddened by his recent statements. They are not yet ready to watch the game without the Ranchi-born player
