‘Fantastic Knock’: Abhishek Sharma architects Hyderabad’s first win of Indian T20 League 2022
Chennai and Hyderabad locked horns at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Mumbai in the 17th match of the Indian T20 League 2022. Both teams have had similar results in their respective games so far. The defending champions, Chennai, had lost their first three games of the season. On the other hand, Hyderabad had lost their first two games against Rajasthan and Lucknow. Both teams entered the game with the intent to register their first win of the 15th season.
The Orange Army chose to bowl first after winning the toss without any surprise. Washington Sundar provided the first breakthrough to the team as he cut short the innings of Robin Uthappa (15) as the latter was caught by Aiden Markram. Two overs later, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s (16) poor form continued as he was clean bowled by T. Natarajan. At 36/2, Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu (27) stitched a partnership of 62 runs before the latter was caught by Markram off Sundar.
Ali (47) followed the next over as he was taken out by Markram. Skipper Ravindra Jadeja’s 23 off 15 took the team to 154/7 with no other batter contributing at all. For the 2016 champions, Sundar and Natarajan took two wickets each while Markram, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Marco Jansen took one each. In reply, Hyderabad openers, skipper Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma provided a good start. Williamson was playing steadily while Sharma took the attack on the opposition bowlers.
The pair stitched a partnership of 89 runs before the skipper became the victim of left-arm pacer Mukesh Choudhary. In came Rahul Tripathi, who stitched a partnership of 46 runs with Sharma, who scored 75 off 50 before getting out to Chris Jordan. On the other hand, Tripathi scored unbeaten 39 off 15 balls to hand the team their first win with 2.2 overs to spare. On the other hand, Chennai has lost four games in a row having played as many games.

Breakthrough win for #SRH still below their best, but Abhishek Sharma, Washington Sundar, Rahul Tripathi and T Natarajan finding timely form. So much so that the batting of Pooran and Markram wasn’t even needed. Meanwhile CSK have dug themselves into a deeper ole.

The only other time #CSK lost four #IPL games in a row was from 21 Mar 2010 to 28 Mar 2010 – against PBKS (superover), RCB (36 runs), MI (5 wkts) and RR (17 runs).
However, CSK won their first IPL title the same season!#CSKvSRH #SRHvsCSK #IPL2022— Mohandas Menon (@mohanstatsman) April 9, 2022

Despite losing momentum It’s a decent a score from Csk. 3 spinners for them today. Williamson holds the key for Srh.

I fear #CSK fans will find this a long #IPL. It isn't just that they lost, it can happen, but they weren't in the game. And that is worrisome.

Well played @IamAbhiSharma4! Sweet striker of the ball but packs a punch too. You saw the pull, the lofted cover drive, the big slog sweep and the flat batted shot over long on. All round game👌🽠Good to see SRH backing him and the youngster repaying the faith. #CSKvSRH #IPL2022

#CSKvSRH Maiden IPL fifty for Abhishek Sharma, who did not even open the innings for most of last IPL, when Warner was playing for SRH. He has been the aggressor and is making sure SRH are cruising home.
