Hindi Diwas Special: 14th September marks the Hindi Diwas in India. It is celebrated to praise the enriched and official language of India, that is ‘Hindi’. Even though, Hindi is not the National language of India, it is widely used and is mostly common across the diverse states of India. This day is to commemorate the date 14 September 1949 when during the drafting of the National constitution of India, there was a decision of choosing which language would get the official status in the Republic of India.

“Even though Hindi is not our national language, it is our official language. India doesn’t have a National language due to its diversity. However, globalization has encouraged everyone to learn and communicate in English. Therefore, since I was a child, I have been taught every single word in both languages. Therefore, I am bilingual. We don’t often receive scripts in the Devnagri Lipi, but I love reading Hindi novels. Premchand ji remains my favourite along with Gulzar Saab and Amrita Pritam ji.”
Prateik Chaudhary:
“I have a special connection with the Hindi language. For me, English just doesn’t feel the same. When I get the scripts, it is just different and with more emotions when I read it in Hindi. As it is my first language, speaking Hindi gives me comfort and ease. Even though there are many novels in English these days, I have found gems in Hindi novels too. I believe that our Indian heritage and culture is best expressed in Hindi rather than in English. Also, all our Vedas and religious books are in Hindi, so it shouldn’t be like you can’t read them after a couple of lines, one should be comfortable in reading it the same way they read an English novel.”
Simple Kaul:
“We are all proficient in Hindi as well. We use it for our conversations and studies. So, I disagree with the notion that people exclusively speak in English; most of us are bilingual. I can certainly read my scripts in Hindi if needed. I have no issue with the language. But when it comes to reading books, I choose English because, as I mentioned earlier, I find it more comfortable to read in that language.”
