Suryakumar Yadav, arguably the best T20 batter in the world, has been ‘bossing’ the shortest format in a way that not many have in the past. While AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, and a few others have achieved exceptional results in T20 cricket, what Surya is doing now has many wondering if he is the best there ever was in the game’s shortest format.
Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja said that Suryakumar might even be “a little more consistent” than the great AB de Villiers. In an interview with Cricbuzz following India’s 91-run victory over Sri Lanka in the third and final T20I in Rajkot, Jadeja discussed the similarities between De Villiers and Suryakumar.
“With AB de Villiers we saw, I mean he was one of the finest we have seen, no doubt. His (Suryakumar Yadav) consistency is a little bit more and I think what he adds with AB is that there’s a little more power to his game. What he adds is the wrist work which AB didn’t have. So the angles you were talking about, they were because of the wrists. both sides his wrists work better than AB also,” he said.
Suryakumar then went on to score a 51-ball 112 against Sri Lanka in the third Twenty20 International on Saturday. As far as the middle-order batter has changed the perception of batting in T20 cricket, he has truly established himself as the world’s No. 1 batter in this format.
IND vs SL: ODI series
The 32-year-old will now look to translate his excellent form into one-day international cricket when India takes on Sri Lanka in a three-match series beginning January 10. The first of the three-match series will be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The action will then move to Kolkata before the series finale in Thiruvananthapuram.
This series kicks off the Men in Blue’s preparations for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. India will host the prestigious event in October-November.
