With the Indian cricket board rebooting their setup after getting Roger Binny on board as their president, the secretary, Jay Shah confirmed right away that India won’t be travelling to Pakistan for the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup.
Shah, the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), said that the Indian cricket board won’t be travelling to the rival country and added that they would bat for a neutral venue. While Indian fans are still taking their time to get the gist out of Sourav Ganguly’s exit, this information from Shah has frustrated the fans from the neighbouring nation.
Indians, on the other hand, opined that it was a good decision and backed the board for boycotting the nation. The fans from the other side of the border hit back and requested the Pakistan cricket board (PCB) to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup to be held in India.
We have decided that we will not travel to Pakistan: Shah
The dawn of a new era for team India under Binny would be the one to watch out for as the previous head Ganguly was criticised badly for mismanaging the board. Further, the former Indian skipper was reportedly dejected after getting no backing to continue as the president of the richest board.
“Neutral venue for Asia Cup is not unprecedented and we have decided that we will not travel to Pakistan. It’s the govt which decides over the permission of our team visiting Pakistan so we won’t comment on that but for the 2023 Asia Cup, it is decided that the tournament will be held at a neutral venue,” Shah was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
In other news, Ganguly, the outgoing president, congratulated Binny on his new stint and said that the current board under the former World Cup winner will take India forward. Further, Ganguly added that the Indian team is strong and said that the team would go on to achieve more things.
“I wish Roger (Binny) all the best. The new group will take this forward. The Indian cricket board is in great hands. Indian cricket is strong so I wish them all the luck,” Ganguly said to ANI after the announcement was made public.
Let us take a look at some fan reactions after Shah confirmed that India won’t travel to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup:
dk really why yall getting shocked that India won’t be travelling to Pakistan for Asia cup. Just a reminder that we did the same in 2018 Asia cup and the people who are saying that we won’t travel for WC that isn’t possible at all as it is a ICC event.
