England team in shock after Yashasvi Jaiswal survives caught behind appeal during 4th Test in Ranchi

India currently lead the five-match Test series 2-1 against England.

England reaction

India is currently hosting England in Ranchi for the fourth Test in their 5-match Test series. During the second innings, when Yashasvi Jaiswal was batting, he edged one to the keeper. However, there was no guarantee that it was properly caught by the England wicket-keeper.

The on-field umpires decided to go to the third umpire for a clear confirmation on the catch. When the replays were shown, everyone thought the ball had bounced before it was caught by Ben Foakes. However, the England team started celebrating prematurely before the third umpire made his decision.

But, much to the dismay of the visitors, the big screen at the JSCA International Stadium Complex stated that Jaiswal was ‘Not Out’. The reactions from the England camp were full of shock and disappointment. They were more than convinced that it was caught cleanly and Jaiswal should be back in the pavilion. This incident occurred during the 20th over of the innings in the second session on the second day.

A similar incident happened earlier in the morning as well during the first innings. Kuldeep Yadav bowled a googly which deceived the centurion Joe Root. It caught the edge and went straight to Rohit Sharma. The Team India skipper wasn’t sure whether he had caught the ball cleanly and informed the umpire about that as well. Even the third-umpire confirmed that the ball had bounced before Rohit caught it and therefore Root stayed at the crease.

Joe Root takes England past 350!

It was dependent on Joe Root and the two of his partnerships, which kept England afloat. He had a 113-run partnership with Ben Foakes for the sixth wicket. Later on, he added 102-run with Ollie Robinson for the eighth wicket. Foakes scored 47, whilst Robinson scored 58, and Crawley added 42. However they ended up being casted as supporting roles for Joe Root’s mega hundred.

Ravindra Jadeja took four wickets, slicing through the tailenders on Day 2. Meanwhile Mohammed Siraj took two and Akash Deep was able to scalp three wickets. England has made a great comeback, reaching 353 from a tricky position. But the pitch has relaxed and India will believe there are more runs to be scored.
