The bottom-placed sides in the Emirates D20 League Ajman and Dubai clashed in search of their first point in what was the 11th match of the tournament. Both teams were looking to earn their fist win in the tournament. Ajman eventually had the last laugh and opened their account.
Winning the toss, the Ajman team decided to bat first. The opening pair of Sandeep Singh (25) and Sagar Kalyan (13) gave a good start to Ajman’s innings and took the score line to 32 in just 3.2 overs before Sandeep got out. Captain, Yasir Kaleem could not do much and was out for six runs off seven balls.
The next batter Ansh Tandon with a cautious 11 off of 24 balls slowed down the innings and looked uncomfortable at the crease. Shahnawaz Khan with 20(17) tried to get their innings going but could not do much either.
It was Hameed Khan with 66 off 31 balls who eventually got the team going by hitting seven boundaries and three sixes. Ajman ended up scoring a huge score of 169/5. Mohammad Farooq from the Dubai side was the pick of their bowlers with a bowling figure of 4-41-2.
In pursuit of the target, Dubai openers, Shaurya Singh and the captain Ronak Panoly walked in but could not give a good start. Shaurya was the first to get out, having made just one run off of 6 deliveries. Ronak with 30 off 23 did well to steady the inning but was left again by Rameez Shahzad (23). The captain too departed later as Dubai’s score read 67, at that stage.
Punya Mehra (22), Muhammad Farooq (12), Shival Bawa (23) and Harsh Bobade (13) made notable cameos but none of them could convert the start into big scores. Eventually, they lost the match by 28 runs.
Sultan Ahmed (4-27-3) and Nasir Aziz (3-16-2) were instrumental in breaking Dubai’s back and chocked their run chase. After earning their first points, Ajman move to fifth on the points table while Dubai linger at the bottom without any points.
