Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium hosted the 43rd match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore of the Indian Premier League 2023. Faf du Plessis took over as RCB captain once again. He won the toss and chose to bat first, which was a wise decision on a slow track.
Faf put on a good show alongside Virat Kohli, adding 62 runs in 9 overs. However, the two were too slow in their approach, and as a result, Virat lost his wicket. Ravi Bishnoi charged the former RCB skipper with a wide delivery. Nicholas Pooran, the wicketkeeper, was fast to gather it and stumped Virat Kohli.
After that, the batters slowed down their pace dramatically as they lost Anuj Rawat, Glenn Maxwell, and Suyash Prabhudesai in quick succession. Faf, on the other hand, tried to rotate the strike at one end before rain interrupted the proceedings.
After the game resumed, Dinesh Karthik played a couple of good strokes, but Faf lost his wicket after scoring 44 runs in 40 balls in the 17th over. The Men in Red and Black could not hold their composure as wickets kept tumbling for them. While Karthik looked good in the game, he was run out in the 19th over.
Following that, Afghani pacer Naveen ul Haq bowled an excellent final over, picking up two wickets and conceding only six runs. In the end, the 2016 finalists managed to get 126 runs on the board while losing nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
For LSG, Naveen ul Haq took three wickets in the game, while the spin duo of Ravi Bishnoi and Amit Mishra took two wickets each. Krishnappa Gowtham also took one wicket in his two-over spell.
It’s a slow wicket, not a lot of bounce: Faf du Plessis
“It’s a slow wicket, not a lot of bounce and thought 135 would be a par score, if we can get 1-2 wickets in the powerplay, will be a tough chase. If you bowl into the wicket, it is stopping and the boundary scoring is also really hard. When we try to force the boundaries it is hitting the toe end of the bat,” Du Plessis said at the end of the innings.
