ODI World Cup 2023
‘Ek aur one-sided encounter’ – Fans react as England claim first victory at ODI World Cup 2023 with 137-run win over Bangladesh
England posted a massive total on the board which made their task a whole lot easier
Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field first in Dharamsala for their morning game against England. Jonny Bairstow as well as Dawid Malan assessed the pitch by getting off to a cautious start. But as soon as they locked on, both hitters began launching the ball hard. Shakib Al Hasan tried everything, but nothing was successful.
Before Bairstow went out by a straight one, both openers reached fifty runs. Joe Root took his place in the game and continued playing, scoring the typical fifty. Malan had a good time with a huge daddy hundred on a track that failed to grip as well as turn too much.
When he was out during the 38th over, England’s momentum was slightly halted. Jos Buttler as well as Harry Brook had modest displays in their short stay at the crease. But Bangladesh made a powerful comeback in the final 10 overs as Mahedi Hasan and Shoriful Islam both collected three wickets. Bangladesh have now got to chase a mammoth total of 363 runs in their 50 overs.
England make a powerful comeback as bowlers show class
After Malan struck a significant century and Root as well as Bairstow contributed fifty-plus scores, the game was essentially gone in the first innings. When Reece Topley pulled out three wickets during his first stint in a masterful exhibition of swing bowling, it was entirely buried.
Litton Das persevered, and there was briefly some unrealistic optimism that he may make it, but a Chris Woakes outswinger ended his fight. Although Keeper Mushfiqur as well as Towhid Hridoy scored a few runs, their only contribution was to drag out the game’s conclusion.
Liam Livingstone was needed to outbid Hridoy before Adil Rashid eventually found his stride with a googly. Once the tail was shaken, Wood and Curran gave England a commanding victory. In the end, England won the game by a convincing margin of 137 runs.
