‘Duggal Saab aaj cricket selector committee member bane hai’ – Fans react as Shashi Tharoor questions Suryakumar Yadav’s place in Indian team
Speaking about his form against Australia India skipper Rohit Sharma said that Surya played three good balls in the series.
Star India batter Suryakumar Yadav is struggling from a horrific form in the ODIs. In the recently-concluded ODI series against Australia, Suryakumar failed in all three games and registered golden ducks in all three games. As India lost the series by 1-2, netizens and cricket experts have been slamming Indian team management for persisting with Mumbai despite his poor form. A recent addition to the list is Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
The senior MP from Thiruvananthapuram slammed Indian team management for supporting Suryakumar Yadav and also questioned his place in the team. Tharoor also asked what Sanju Samson needs to do to feature in the team.
In a tweet, the senior MP said, “Now that poor Surya Kumar Yadav has set an unenviable world record with his three golden ducks in a row, is it unreasonable to ask why Sanju Samson, averaging 66 in ODIs despite batting at an unfamiliar position for him at 6, wasn’t in the squad? What does he need to do?”
Notably, Suryakumar Yadav had one of the worst nightmares in this series as he got dismissed on the very first ball in every match. In the first two games, Surya was trapped by Mitchell Starc in front of the wickets while in the last game, he was cleaned up by Ashton Agar.
‘He played only three balls’, Captain Rohit Sharma backs Surya
Despite his continuous failures in ODIs Indian team management is backing Suryakumar Yadav. Speaking about his form against Australia India skipper Rohit Sharma said that Surya played three good balls in the series.
While speaking with the media after losing the third ODI against Australia Rohit said, “He (Suryakumar) played only three balls in the series. I don’t know how much you can look into it. He got three good balls.” Meanwhile, coach Rahul Dravid had also supported the 32-year-old batter by saying that he is still learning the ODI format.
Notably, the world number 1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav is yet to replicate his abilities in the long formats of the game. In his ODI career, Surya has played 23 matches and has scored just 433 runs. His performance has been below par in the 50-over format. Meanwhile, fans got furious with Shashi Tharoor and blamed him for mixing politics with the game. A Twitter user said, “please don’t mix politics with cricket.”

You should ask the same question to Rahul Gandhi. Despite losing dozens of elections back to back, why is he still the congress PM candidate instead of someone like you?

Let the coach and team management do the selection. Not sure if tweets like yours actually help Sanju or affects him adversely.
Also consider impact on team dynamics if senior politicians/MPs like you express public opinion.— D Prasanth Nair (@DPrasanthNair) March 23, 2023
He should keep fighting like Sachin Pilot and not give up like Hemanta Biswa or Jyotiraditya Scindia.

At least 2 or more people in the selection committee who loves @IamSanjuSamson more than some of the current under performers, I suppose?

Why are you only comparing sky with sanju?
You can compare him with virat, kl , rohit, shreyash too.
He is top 1 t20 batter and getting chance after so many years.— Rohit Gorai (@SurajGorai333) March 24, 2023
Politics ???Cricket (Their are other important matters rather than focusing whom to select in the Indian cricket team)

Sir regardless of individual players' performances, it's important to continue supporting the team as a whole and have faith in their abilities to bounce back from setbacks.
