Australia’s middle-order batter Travis Head has claimed that Jonny Bairstow had no problem stumping out a player the same way he got out. The latter getting stumped on Day Five of the Lord’s Test has become a matter of debate. Apparently, Bairstow left the crease as the last ball of the over was bowled. As a habit developed by the cricketers over the years, they leave the crease to switch off mentally.
However, the 2019 World Cup winner did it a bit too early as the umpires didn’t call the end of the over. Carey, being an aware player, decided to underarm the ball towards the stumps. The throw was accurate and the wicketkeeper batter, Jonny got run out. This incited boos from the fans and the MCC members, known for their gracious behavior, decided to throw away their usual demeanor and decided to hackle the Aussie players.
I asked Jonny Bairstow whether he would have stumped me out and he said yes: Travis Head
Meanwhile, Australia is currently leading the Ashes 2023 by 2-0. In a recent interview, the left-hander, Head claimed that he reminded Jonny about whether he would have gotten an opposition batter out the same way. In reply, Jonny is claimed to have agreed.
“Jonny wasn’t too pleased. And I sort of reminded Jonny last week I walked out of my crease at the end of an over. I quickly whipped my bat back and questioned Jonny on whether he would take the stumps and he said, ‘Bloody oath I would’, and ran off,” Head revealed on LiSTNR’s Willow Talk podcast.
“If you put on the England hat, they’re disappointed. But the Australia (side), to the letter of the law, which was explained with Mitchell Starc’s catch the day before that it would be out. I know they’ve questioned it differently if they were in the same situation but with all the heat out of the air, saying that is a little bit different than in the moment,” he added.

And had Bairstow been warned by Carey in the same manner he couldn’t really complain if Carey did what he did. That’s part of the problem.
Time to move on, can’t change the past & England 2nd best at Lord’s by some distance anyway.
