‘Disrespecting hard work of the Team’ – Twitter users bash MS Dhoni for crediting biscuits for India’s 2011 World Cup victory

MS Dhoni

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni left his fans excited as he announced yesterday that he was going to share some big news today. However, all the excitement went in vain as Dhoni ended up launching a famous biscuit ‘Oreo’ all over again. Fans all over the country were left disappointed as they expected the world-cup-winning captain to reveal something back.

The motto behind the advertisement is something that has irked Indian cricket fans. In the launch video, Dhoni is seen drawing a connection with the biscuit’s first launch in 2011 and India’s World Cup win in the same year. As there is another World Cup coming this year, the brand decided to launch its product all over again to serve as a good omen for India’s World Cup win.

The absurd statement by Dhoni hasn’t gone down too well with the fans who’re bashing him for playing with the fan’s emotions.

In 2011, India won the World Cup after 28 years under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The former Indian captain was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ in the final of the World Cup for scoring a magnificent 91 off 79 balls. Since 2011, India have failed to repeat their heroics failing to lift the coveted cup again in six attempts.

They were knocked out of the 2021 20-20 World Cup in the first stage itself. The ‘Men-in-Blue’ are under tremendous pressure to win the World Cup this time around. India last won a major trophy way back in 2013 which was the Champions Trophy under the leadership of MS Dhoni only.

The World Cup is all set to begin next month from 16th October in Australia. India will play their first match against arch-rivals Pakistan on 23rd October. Meanwhile, the ‘Men-in-Blue’ will lock horns today with Australia in the third and final T20I of the series which is levelled at 1-1.

MS Dhoni’s absurd statement hasn’t gone down well with the fans. Here’s how they reacted to Dhoni’s statement:
