Following India’s thrilling win by 2 runs in the first T20I match against Sri Lanka, both clashed into the second on Thursday. India won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Hoping to bring the series to a balance, Sri Lanka batters came onto the crease with confident intent. Both Pathum Nissanka (33) and Kusal Mendis (52) emulated their form of the Asia Cup 2022 and brought 80 runs for the team in just 8 overs before the first wicket fell. Charith Asalanka also played a significant knock of 37 off just 19. In the end, it was against captain Dasun Shanaka who played a brilliant knock of 56 off just 22 balls to bring Sri Lanka past 200 (206).

Umran Malik was yet again breathing fire with the ball as he took 3 wickets in 4 overs with Axar Patel also helping with 2 of his own.

Coming onto chase the Indian batters failed to emulate the start of Sri Lanka. Ishan Kishan (2) was the first to go followed by Shubman Gill (5). Rahul Tripathi playing in just his first match also failed to fire under pressure as he was dismissed at just 5. Captain Hardik Pandya tried to bring the match into India’s favour but was dismissed by a brilliant Chamika Karunaratne in the 5th over itself.

It was Axar Patel and Suryakumar Yadav who took it upon themselves the charged the Sri Lanka bowlers. After Yadav departed at 51 it was Patel (65) and Shivam Mavi ( ) who dragged the game all the way to the last ball.

In the end, India lost the match by 16 runs.
