On Tuesday, the Women’s T20 League continued with a match between Gujarat and Mumbai. Mumbai won the toss and chose to bat first, setting a target of 162 runs for Gujarat to chase. Despite a few hiccups along the way, Mumbai managed to put up a solid batting performance.
Harmanpreet Kaur was the star of the innings, smashing 51 runs off just 30 balls with the help of seven boundaries and two sixes. Yastika Bhatia also played a crucial role, scoring 44 runs off 37 deliveries, including five fours and one six. Nat Sciver-Brunt contributed 36 runs off 31 balls, with five fours and a six.
Despite Mumbai’s impressive batting performance, Gujarat’s Ashleigh Gardner managed to take three wickets in just four overs. Her bowling spell helped slow down Mumbai’s scoring rate and kept Gujarat’s hopes of chasing down the target alive.
In reply, Gujarat got off to a shaky start, losing both their openers early on. Harleen Deol tried to steady the ship with a quickfire 22 off 23 balls, including three fours, but she was unable to build a substantial partnership with anyone else. Sneh Rana also contributed 20 runs off 19 balls, but it was not enough to save the innings.
Gujarat’s batting lineup struggled against a disciplined Mumbai bowling attack. Nat Sciver-Brunt continued her impressive form, taking three wickets and conceding just 15 runs in her four overs. Hayley Matthews also took three wickets, helping restrict Gujarat to a meager 107 runs in their 20 overs.
Overall, it was a dominant performance by Mumbai, who not only managed to put up a challenging total on the board but also kept the opposition’s scoring rate in check. On the other hand, Gujarat will have to regroup and come up with a better plan in their next match if they want to keep their hopes of making it to the playoffs alive.
The Women’s T20 League has been an exciting tournament so far, with some outstanding performances by players from all teams. Fans can look forward to more thrilling matches in the days to come.
