Due to his engagement in the Lok Sabha Elections, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) coach Gautam Gambhir may not return as a team mentor during the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Contrary to previous rumours, Gambhir has not been in negotiations with any other club and will remain with LSG following the mandatory one-year sabbatical.
Gambhir was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the East Delhi seat in the 2019 General Elections. He came out on top by an overwhelming margin and has emerged as an established spokesperson for the ruling party in recent years in the capital city.
Gautam is a big face for BJP in Delhi: Source
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) regards him as an important component, and he will undoubtedly play an important role in the campaigns leading up to the election. CricketNext was informed by a person who is following developments related to this news.
The source said, “Yes, Gautam Gambhir is likely to just take a break for the next IPL due to political commitments. He is not moving to a different team or leaving franchises. There will be a lot of political work involved in the build-up to the Lok Sabha elections, so he wants to focus all his energies towards that.”
He added that, “Gautam is a big face for BJP in Delhi and elsewhere also his popularity is right up there. So he will be actively involved in election work next year and will not have enough time for the IPL.”
The 2024 General Elections are projected to be held in April and May, conflicting with the IPL. Due to the Indian elections, the tournament’s inaugural phase was staged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2014.
Following their fourth-place result in the 2023 edition, the franchise made major changes to its coaching staff during the off-season. They hired former Australia head coach Justin Langer. LSG has just hired former India chief selector MSK Prasad to be its principal strategy consultant.
