Commonwealth Games 2022: Day 8 Results- Wrestling brings six medals to India’s bag, including three Gold

Wrestling came in with a hoard of medals for the Indian contingent on day eight

There are just two days of events left in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Teams would be looking to end their campaign on a high which is why these two days are going to be very intense for all athletes.

Day eight was very fruitful for the Indian contingent as they won a total of six medals. The day brought three gold, one silver and two bronze medals to India’s bag. Let’s see how India performed on day 8 of the Commonwealth Games.

Hockey

In what came as a heartbreak to the Indian fans, the Indian women’s team lost to Australia in the semi-final. They now face New Zealand in the bronze medal match on Sunday.

The match went to the penalties where Indian players failed to convert giving Australia a door to the final.

Wrestling

Wrestling came in with a hoard of medals for the Indian contingent as they won six on day eight. Bajrang Punia won Gold in Men’s 65kg category whereas Sakshi Malik also won Gold in the Women’s 62kg category.

Deepak Punia increased India’s medal tally with a Gold in Men’s 86kg. Anshu Malik got a silver in Women’s 57kg. Divya Kakran and Mohit Grewal won bronze in their respective categories to take India’s tally to 26 medals.

Lawn Bowls

India were defeated by England 18-14 in the Women’s Pair Quarter-finals but won against Canada 10-14 in Men’s four quarterfinals. The Indian team also advanced to the Finals with a win over England (13-12) in Men’s Fours Semifinals.

Table Tennis/ Para Table Tennis

Sreeja Akula won against Canada’s Mo Zhang in Women’s Singles Quarter-finals. The duo of Sathiyan Gnanasekaran/ Achanta Sharath defeated England’s pair to enter the Men’s Doubles Semi-Final.

Achanta Sharath/ Akula Sreeja also won their quarterfinal match by 3-0 against England’s pair to move into the semi-finals.
Bhavina Hasmukhbhai Patel defeated England’s Sue Bailey to move into the finals of the 3-5 class.

Athletics

Amoj Jacob, Noah Nirmal Tom, Arokia Rajiv, Muhammed Ajmal, Naganathan Pandi and Rajesh Ramesh qualified for Men’s 4X400 m Relay Round 1.

Indian star sprinter Hima Das was disqualified in the Women’s 200m Semi-Final.

Badminton

Satwik Siraj Rankireddy/ Chirag Shetty advanced to the quarter-final after beating Pakistan’s duo in Men’s doubles.

Indian star shuttler Lakshya Sen also moved to the quarter-final with a win over Ying Xiang Lin. PV Sindhu also advanced to the quarter-final with a win over Uganda’s Husina Kobugabe. Kidambi Srikanth was another to move into the quarterfinal with a 2-0 win. Jolly Treesa and Gayatri Gopichand defeated the Mauritius duo by 2-0 to head into the quarterfinals of Women’s doubles.
