Virat Kohli has recently redeemed himself by scoring a few centuries in white-ball cricket. However, the same cannot be said about his form in Test Cricket. He has been struggling to get going in red-ball cricket, which is evident in his performances in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The former Indian captain was dismissed after scoring just 13 runs in the second innings of the 3rd Test match in Indore. Matthew Kuhnemann, playing only his second game, got his wicket for the third time this series.
He bowled the delivery a little short on the length, forcing Kohli to stay on the back foot and pull it on the leg side. However, the ball arrived much faster than expected and stayed very low. Kohli got beaten on the inside edge and was stuck in front of the middle and leg. The veteran batter knew he wouldn’t make it through the DRS and walked to the dressing room.

In the meantime, his knock in the first innings was India’s highest score. He scored 22 runs in 52 balls as India was restricted to a score of just 109 runs. Kuhnemann’s brilliant spell helped him to a five-wicket haul in the innings, while Nathan Lyon took three wickets.
The Kangaroos got off to a great start in their batting innings, overcoming the spin conditions magnificently. Usman Khawaja’s outstanding knock of 60 runs in 147 deliveries put the home team under immense pressure. They eventually managed 197 runs and an 88-run lead in their first innings.
Following that, India did not fare well in the middle. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill looked good before the lunch break, but couldn’t keep up afterwards. Both lost their wickets cheaply, and Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja followed soon.
At the time of writing this article, India has managed to surpass Australia’s lead, scoring 91 runs. Cheteshwar Pujara (42 runs in 81 balls) and Shreyas Iyer (6 runs in 13 balls) are in the middle. They will look to build a strong partnership from here on.
