In the series against Ireland, it was expected that India would be back at their strongest during the second game, which enabled them to establish an unstoppable 2-0 lead, despite the little hiccup in the difficult run chase during the first T20I. The last T20I could have been utilised as a chance to give the periphery players playing time after the series was assured.
The starting lineups for both sides were the same for the second game. However, they would have liked to have had some playing time to prepare for a demanding cricket season. Rain played spoiler for the spectators who travelled great distances to get to the stadium to witness the game being called off due to inclement weather.
An honour to lead the side and everyone was very eager and enthusiastic: Jasprit Bumrah
Interestingly, the sun came out following the cancellation of the game which might have bummed out some home fans. With this, India will bring home the win and maintain its perfect record versus the European country. Even though there were just two matches that might have been played, India still had a lot to gain. None were more noteworthy than Bumrah’s resumption to the field and his impressive bowling performance.
The winning captain Jasprit Bumrah spoke about the opportunity he got from the Indian team management. He said, “Very happy to be back and play some cricket. Frustrating when you’re waiting for a game to happen. Did not see this coming, weather was fine in the morning. An honour to lead the side, everyone was very eager and enthusiastic.”
The Mumbai Indians bowler amusingly discussed his injury with the media reporter and the responsibility he had to keep as team skipper. He said, “Whenever you get an opportunity to lead your side, anyone would love to do that. As a cricketer, you always want responsibility. All good, no complaints. Not one year (out of the team), 10-11 months. Makes my job easier when players are so confident, and they tell me what to do.”
