Fans have placed their expectations on Rohit Sharma and company to break the lengthy wait for the Indian squad to bring home a trophy since the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 is scheduled to be held in India. The Indian team last won a major world tournament back in 2013 when they won the Champions Trophy, although they have subsequently made several near calls, they have not lived up to expectations.
Injuries have contributed to India’s woes during this time, and Jasprit Bumrah is one of the top players who might be about to make his eagerly awaited comeback from an extended injury.
Bumrah proved to be a huge loss for the Indian squad despite having players like Mohammed Shami as well as Mohammed Siraj on the pitch. The star pacer, who hasn’t played since last September, is getting ready to return.
Bumrah is expected to come back into the spotlight during the next T20I series versus Ireland, according to a previous report from Cricketnext. Before the opening ODI match versus West Indies, skipper Rohit Sharma also provided an update on the pacer’s development as he maintains his recovery at the NCA in Bengaluru.
We hope he plays before the World Cup: Rohit Sharma
Before the first ODI of the series, Rohit stated during the pre-match press conference that he wasn’t sure if Bumrah would be guaranteed a place for the Ireland series but he was hoping the bowler may have a few matches before the ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to start on 5 October.
The Indian team skipper said, “The amount of experience he (Bumrah) brings is very important. Right now he’s coming from a serious injury and I’ve no idea if he’ll travel to Ireland because the team hasn’t been announced yet. If he gets to play then it’s good and we hope he plays before the World Cup. When a player returns from a serious injury, match fitness, match feeling are some key components, which are missing.”
Fans react to Rohit Sharma’s statement on Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the Indian team:
