Breaking : Indian Cricket Board announce squad for ODI World Cup 2023
The selectors made some bold choices while selecting the ODI World Cup 2023 squad
The Indian Cricket Board has finally announced India’s squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. The squad announcement was scheduled for Tuesday, September 5, and earlier there was a lot of speculation over specific positions in the team.
Suryakumar Yadav is a particular player whose spot in the side had been called into doubt, despite the fact that most of the spots were already sealed by the superstars of the team. Fans and commentators alike were perplexed by Suryakumar Yadav’s failures to replicate his top-ranked T20I achievements in ODI cricket. Even through all this, the Indian team management has decided to back the batter ahead of the mega tournament on home soil.
Tilak Varma, his middle order partner from the Mumbai Indians , on the other hand, has seized every chance that has come his way, attracting the notice of the selectors and earning a spot in the Asia Cup squad despite never having played an ODI match. However, he has been dropped from the main 15-man squad for the ODI World Cup but finds a place along with the other travelling reserves .
Other Indian players to miss out on the squad
Another major doubt was whether to include Sanju Samson in the World Cup squad after the splendid year that he had in the format last season but the selectors and team management have backed Ishan Kishan, who has notched four fifties in his last five matches. KL Rahul, who is returning from injury is also part of the squad and might be making his comeback during the Asia Cup to ensure that he is match-fit ahead of a busy schedule.
The only major concern in the bowling department was the exclusion of Yuzvendra Chahal, who has always been a terrific player to have in the squad given his exploits in the white-ball format of the game. Instead, the management has backed bowling all-rounders Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur to increase their batting depth.
