The debate over hosting the rights of the next edition of the Asia Cup has been a hot topic for a long time. Pakistan and India are at loggerheads over the Men in Blue visiting the neighbouring country for the inter-continental tournament.
Indian Cricket Board Secretary and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Jay Shah had earlier confirmed that India will not be travelling to Pakistan for the tournament and that the proceedings will be held at a neutral venue. However, this did not sit well with former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja.
Raja went all out in raising his voice against this and stated that if India does not visit Pakistan, their team will not tour India for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. However, things turned around with the arrival of Najam Sethi at the top position.
Sethi requested that the ACC meet immediately to discuss the issue. Shah has reportedly flown to Bahrain, where the meeting will take place. According to reports from the PTI, there are “little to no chances” of the Asia Cup 2023 being held in Pakistan in September. The tournament will either be relocated to the UAE, with the PCB retaining hosting rights, or it will be held in Sri Lanka.

“Finally, we have a date now to meet ACC officials. I will attend ACC’s meeting on February 4 in Bahrain. I am not sure about our stance for now; I will decide it in the meeting, keeping an eye on the situation,” Sethi had earlier said.
Sethi also provided an update on the Indian Cricket Board’s demand on the row, stating that while they are willing to host Pakistan for the World Cup, they are unwilling to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. “India Cricket Board wants Pakistan to travel to India, but Indian Cricket Board doesn’t want India to play in Pakistan. This is not something new for us,” said Sethi.
