At the conclusion of Day 1 of the second Test at Port of Spain in Trinidad, India maintained their lead over the West Indies in the Test series, scoring 288/4. Despite losing the toss and being ordered to bat, India’s openers put on a century stand before Virat Kohli added an unbroken half-century to further solidify the innings.

India started off their first innings with confidence as their captain Rohit Sharma bagged a significant 80 while Yashasvi Jaiswal bagged 57 off 74 as they combined for a first-wicket partnership of 139 runs.  However, in the second session, the hosts responded when Jaiswal got caught at deep gully after edging a careless drive from Holder. During the second session, West Indies made a fierce comeback and took three more wickets.

India appeared to be in trouble after losing three wickets quickly as the visitors headed to tea at 182/4. India regained control of the game thanks to an unbeaten 106-run fifth-wicket partnership between Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja.

Kohli, who began his innings with a blast down the leg side off Joseph to earn four off his 21st ball, finished with eight fours in a good performance. During his 500th international match, Kohli earned a well-deserved fifty runs through a cover drive against Warrican. He will need an additional 13 runs on Day 2 to reach the century mark in his historic match.

I wish I could tell every youngster in Caribbean to run like that- Ian Bishop

Virat Kohli who is still batting on 87* was quick enough to steal countless doubles during his unbeaten stay during the first day of the second test against the West Indies. Ian Bishop who was on commentary duty couldn’t speak enough of the former Indian skipper and his dedication towards the game.

The former cricketer turned commentator spoke about how Kohli puts everything on the line when he comes out to bat. He said, “Here’s a guy who’s around for 500 games, knows the value of each run. Putting his body on the line, that tells you about his commitment. I wish I could tell every youngster in Caribbean to run like that and not wait for boundaries.”
