‘Bhai tu sabse bade cheater hai, zyada gyaan mat de’ – Fans troll Ricky Ponting as he calls out Shubman Gill for taking dig at third umpire

Shubman Gill’s dismissal in the second innings of the WTC Final 2023 created controversy.

Ricky Ponting, Shubman Gill

Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has said that Shubman Gill might get punished for his rant against the third umpire. Apparently, after getting dismissed in the second innings of the WTC Final 2023, the India opener uploaded a picture of Cameron Green taking a catch. In the picture, the ball can be seen touching the grass. Gill uploaded the picture on Instagram stories and Twitter posts.

While the punishment for questioning umpires’ decisions is always there, Ponting has reminded the fans that the 2018 U19 World Cup winner might receive the same. During a chat, the two-time World Cup-winning captain mentioned that the players aren’t allowed to rant against the umpires.

“Something is definitely going to come of that. There will be some sort of fine, or maybe even a suspension.

“That is a direct crack at the umpire for the decision that they made. You can’t do that.

“The whole world was going to do that for him … he didn’t need to say a word.”

Shubman Gill’s tweet shows his immaturity: Justin Langer

On the other hand, former Australia head coach Justin Langer has also given two cents on the matter. The former opening batter said that the challenge for modern-day cricketers is the social media. Langer added that gill’s tweet shows immaturity in him as a player

“One of the challenges now of a modern-day cricketer is there’s so much social media,” former Australian coach Justin Langer said on Channel 7.

“The Gill tweet I think is a bit irresponsible, shows some inexperience.

“This is the world we live in with social media.”

As per the Apex Council’s Code of Conduct, a player can be fined for showing dissent against the umpire’s decision. The Level One of Article 2.8 related to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match.”
