India vs Australia 2023

‘Bhai tu retire ho jaa naa, please’ – KL Rahul falls early yet again in the 2nd Test of BGT ’23

India leads the 4-Test BGT series 1-0 after defeating Australia by an innings and 132 runs in first Test at Nagpur.

KL Rahul falls early

KL Rahul’s string of poor scores in Tests continued as the recently married India batter got out cheaply in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series in Delhi. Rahul scored just one run in two deliveries, only to get out in the third after edging Nathan Lyon’s delivery for a sharp catch by wicketkeeper Alex Carry. Notably, Rahul fell leg before to the same bowler in the first innings for another cheap score of 17 off 41 deliveries.

His performance in the first Test was similar. He scored 20 runs off 71 balls with just one boundary in his knock before being caught and bowled by the debutant Todd Murphy. As such, this has been a continued issue for the Bengaluru boy in the game’s longest format. The last time he scored a fifty in Tests was back in January 2022 against South Africa at the Centurion. The Test series against the Proteas was the last notable performance for Rahul. Since then, he has played Tests against Bangladesh and Australia with the highest score of 23 in seven innings. In the limited-overs game, however, Rahul has been better in the recent series against Sri Lanka, where he scored handy knocks of 64* and 39.

India are 14-1 at Lunch on Day 3 of the 2nd Test of BGT ’23

At the same time, India’s spin twins Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin returned with three scalps each. In reply, India could manage 262 conceding a single run’s first innings lead. Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel’s 114-run partnership for the eighth wicket rescued the Indian innings as the hosts struggled at 139-7 at a point in the game.

India then bowled Australia out of 113, with Ravindra Jadeja ravishing the Australians with seven scalps while his spin twin Ravichandran Ashwin picked up the other three. In reply, India sit at 14-1 at Lunch on Day 3.
