Australian wicketkeeper, Alex Carey, who was involved in Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal on the final day of Lord’s Test in Ashes 2023, has stood firm in his opinion. He had to face a lot of ‘nasty’ comments from the English fans and media after his controversial stumping. However, in his recent dialogue with the media, he said he would stump Jonny Bairstow again if the opportunity arrives.
Speaking to the media ahead of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Carey bravely said, “If there was an opportunity to get a stumping, yeah I would. There’s been some nasty stuff been said but it is the Ashes. There was nasty stuff said before that as well. I feel well supported, I think the whole group does. From Australia, I still think we’ve got lots of fans and from England, I don’t think we’ve made any, but we probably didn’t lose any either.”

“We were switched on to the fact that it was a bouncer plan and it felt like Jonny was pretty switched on to getting out of the way, he wasn’t playing any shots. When he ducked his first movement was pretty much out of his crease so instinctively I grabbed the ball, threw the stumps down and the rest is history. He’s a fantastic player and a big wicket in that match with Ben Stokes,” he further said explaining the dismissal.
Speaking of Ashes 2023, England bounced back to win the third Test at Headingley. The scoreline is currently 2-1 in favour of the Aussies. The series is quickly approaching its ultimate stages. The fourth Test starts on 19th July at Old Trafford. Following this, the fifth and final Test will be played at The Oval. England need to win both Tests to overturn the scoreline. At the same time, all Australia need to do is restrict England from winning either game.
