Star India batter Virat Kohli has been one of the most consistent batters in the modern cricket era. However, he went through a lean patch when he failed to score runs and was on the verge of being dropped from the team. However, Kohli being a fighter, bounced back and scored brilliant centuries to shut his critics. Meanwhile, In a recent podcast, Kohli revealed how MS Dhoni helped and encouraged him during his bad times.

In a recent podcast upload by the Bangalore franchise of the Indian T20 League, Virat Kohli opened up about his bond with Former India captain MS Dhoni. He also revealed how Dhoni’s message helped him to take the biggest decisions of his career. Kohli said, “Apart from Anushka, who has been with me and has seen me as I passed through that phase, only one person genuinely reached out to me has been MS Dhoni.”

“He reached out to me and you can rarely get in touch with him. If I call him on any random day, 99 per cent he will not pick up (the phone), because he just does not look at the phone. So, for him to reach out to me…twice it has happened now and one of the things that he’d mentioned in the message while reaching out to me was that: ‘when you are expected to be strong and looked at as a strong individual people forget to ask how are you doing?’

“So, it (Dhoni’s words) hit home for me because I have always been looked at as someone who is very confident, mentally very strong, who can endure any circumstances and find a way and show us the way. Sometimes, what you realize is that at any given point of time in life as a human being, you need to take a couple of steps backward, understand how you are doing, how your wellbeing is placed,” he said.

“He knows because he has been there himself”, Says Virat Kohli

The duo of Kohli and MS Dhoni have been phenomenal for India both have shared a dressing room for more than a decade and have been India’s best players. Virat further said that Dhoni understands this because he was there himself.

“So, there are not many places, for the people who have played the game for a long period, as strong individuals, can go and explain in a way that the other person can understand. That’s why I mentioned this particular incident because MS Dhoni knows exactly what is going on, he understands it because he has been there himself,” he added.

Meanwhile, Fans react to his statement and said that Virat is trying to play the victim card. A Twitter user wrote, “Abe Kitna bolega itta pyar hai to jaake uske khet se do kilo tamater kharid le”
