FC Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta has expressed his desire to see Lionel Messi play for the club once again. The Argentinian legend left the club last year after the salary cap was enforced upon the Blaugrana by La Liga. The 35-year-old left the team as a free agent and joined Paris-Saint Germain. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner played for the Spanish club for 17 years.

Meanwhile, the Catalan president has said that he feels indebted to the Rosario-born player. Laporta said that he would like to see the three-time Club World Cup winner end his playing career with Barca. Laporta added that the club can make it happen and his aspiration for the four-time Champions League winner is clear.

“I feel indebted to Leo Messi. I’d love end of his career to be at Barcelona with a standing ovation in every stadium. I think we can make it happen. That’s our aspiration, my intention with Leo is clear,” Joan Laporta said in an interaction with  Toni Juanmartí via renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.

During his stay at the club, Messi played 778 games for the Camp Nou outfit, recording 672 goals and 288 assists across competitions. He helped the club to 10 La Liga titles, four Champions League trophies, seven Copa Del Ray titles, three Club World Cups, etc. Notably, it will be interesting to see when or if Messi joins his old club again. His contract with PSG will end in June 2023 with an option of extension.

It might be tough for the champion team from Spain to re-acquire Messi’s services. After all, he is a player of great stature and would need millions of dimes to acquire a player such as him. Also, if manages to win another Champions League with the title, in addition to the success as a player, he might not leave the club. Also, Barcelona’s team is filled with talents such as Ousmane Dembele, Robert Lewandowski, Xavi, etc at this stage.
