At the MA Chidambaram Stadium, MS Dhoni almost pulled off an incredible victory last night against Rajasthan Royals. In the last over, he hammered two sixes off Sandeep Sharma and nearly pulled off the game for the Yellow Army. While captaining his team Chennai Super Kings for the 200th time in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Dhoni looked in his vintage avatar as he hammered bowlers amazingly. Although yesterday’s match may not have ended in a victory for CSK, that didn’t stop devoted Dhoni fans from tuning in to watch.
More than 20 million people were reportedly watching Dhoni’s final-over exploits on the IPL’s official live-streaming platform JioCinema. “For one moment, 2.2 Cr Indians held their breath. Old memories rushed back. A familiar expectation took over. It didn’t quite end like it used to but for one moment, time stood still for 20 million+ people. One moment. One MS Dhoni” reported JioCinema’s official Twitter handle.
Notably, in the last two overs of the game, CSK needed 40 runs to win the game. In the 19th over, the pair of Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja added 19 runs as the latter hammered two sixes and a boundary off Jason Holder. In the last over of the game, CSK needed 21 off 6 balls and MS Dhoni was on strike. Dhoni added 14 runs in the first three balls but failed to capitalize on the opportunity and CSK marginally failed to cross the line. Dhoni in his innings scored 32 runs off 17 balls.
“There’s something wrong with MS Dhoni”, says Matthew Hayden
Meanwhile, after the game, dormer CSK legend Matthew Hayden raised concerns over MS Dhoni’s fitness and said that it will hurt Yellow Army in near future. “We will not give fans the false expectations that nothing’s wrong. There is definitely something wrong with the CSK skipper. His running between the wickets is usually quite electric, which was not there today,” said Hayden talking to the broadcasters after the match between CSK and RR.
“As the innings progressed, we saw him limping quite heavily. There are some question marks, that I am sure MS Dhoni will have to answer and the medical staff will get straight into it. He will want to keep playing in the tournament,” Hayden added.
