‘Badiya milestone hai ye toh’ – Fans react as Tim Southee becomes first player to claim 150 T20I wickets
The action now shifts to Seddon Park in Hamilton where the two sides would clash on 14th January 2024.
Tim Southee of New Zealand became the very first bowler to reach 150 wickets in Twenty20 Internationals. In Friday’s inaugural Twenty20 International at Eden Park in Auckland, the speedster achieved a remarkable 4/25 against Pakistan to attain the benchmark (January 12).
Southee’s accomplishment occurred during Pakistan’s run chase in the eighteenth over. He became the inaugural bowler with 150 T20I wickets when he removed Abbas Afridi, who had been caught by Matt Henry over deep point. It was his third wicket of the match.
In the same over, the 35-year-old removed Haris Rauf, and Pakistan was bowled out for 180. Earlier, he sent back Iftikhar Ahmed and the dangerous-looking Mohammad Rizwan which provided a solid start for his side.
In 118 Twenty20 Internationals, Southee has taken 151 wickets with an economy rate of 8.12. With 140 and 130 wickets, respectively, Shakib Al Hasan as well as Rashid Khan belong in the top three for the most T20I wickets. Lasith Malinga (107) and Ish Sodhi (127) are also among the top five.
Tim Southee’s masterful bowling display enabled New Zealand to defeat Pakistan by 46 runs during the opening Twenty20 International. Aside from Southee, Ben Sears and Adam Milne each claimed two wickets. Ish Sodhi was content with one wicket.
Pakistan was dismissed for 180 inside 18 overs while chasing 227. With two sixes as well as six boundaries in his 57 off 35 at bat, Babar Azam was the player of the match.

With nine boundaries in a rapid 57 off 42, Williamson scored well. Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, and Finn Allen each tallied 34 (15), 26 (11), as well as 19 (11). Haris Rauf claimed two wickets, while Pakistan’s skipper Shaheen Afridi along with Abbas Afridi both claimed three wickets.
