In the first Test match of the current World Test Championship cycle versus West Indies, India gave two young players their Test debuts. Ishan Kishan and Yashasvi Jaiswal were given the Indian caps before the first day began.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was coming off a successful Indian Premier League season, was the center of attention. In the 2023 season of the competition, Jaiswal was the best batter for the Rajasthan Royals, with 625 runs across 14 games at an average of 48.08. The Mumbai batter demonstrated that he was a versatile player by scoring a heap of runs within the domestic circuit as well. In fact, Jaiswal averages an impressive 80.21 runs per game after 15 first-class games.

Alongside skipper Rohit Sharma in the last hour of Day 1 of the first Test match, Jaiswal performed confidently in his debut and scored 40* from 73 balls. On the first delivery of the last over of the day, the batter made the choice to reverse-sweep bowler Jomel Warrican for a boundary. After the day’s play, former Australia cricketer and current analyst Tom Moody praised the opener.
The batter pleased the former SRH coach during the Indian Premier League in addition, and he previously referred to him as one of Indian cricket’s most promising young players.
Tom Moody took to Twitter to heap praise on the youngster. He wrote, “If the story of Yashasvi Jaiswal hasn’t been compelling enough, his test journey has launched. There’s no doubt he’ll leave a significant footprint in this format.”
With the exception of Moody, Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin praised Jaiswal and described him as a young, energetic batter. Ravichandran Ashwin spoke about the brilliance of Yashasvi Jaiswal and the potential he has. He said, “He just reverse swept the first ball of the last over! That’s what you can expect from him. He is very vibrant, hope he goes far. From our side, we hope to keep the environment good for him.”
