India won semifinal 1 of the ODI World Cup 2023 against New Zealand to qualify for the final. A collective team effort helped the India to win the match. Batters were the architects of India’s win, who just batted New Zealand out of the game by posting 397 runs on the board. With the ball, India did enough to keep the Kiwi batters silent in the run chase.
It was Mohammed Shami who shined in the match with the ball. The Indian seam bowler claimed wickets for fun from his end. With the bowlers at the other end struggling to find their lengths, Shami stuck top his strengths and constantly chipped in with wickets. In his spell, Shami dismissed 5 proper batters, and 2 lower-order batters and caused troubles for New Zealand.
Shami claimed the wickets of Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, and Tom Latham. Later on, Shami cleaned up the tail to claim a 7-wicket haul. The Indian seamer ended up with his career-best figures of 7/57 with the ball. It was the best spell from an Indian bowler ever in the format. It is also the best-ever spell from a bowler in the Knockout stage of the ODI World Cup.

Shami won the Player of the Match award for his sensational performance. After the match, a social media post of Ishan Kishan became viral. In the post, it was written about Shami’s past relationship with his ex-wife and the consequences he has been facing of their divorce. It was in a meme format, which probably led to Ishan liking it.
Recently, the ex-wife of Shami appeared in an interview. Following the qualification of India to the Knockout stage of the tournament, she was asked to react to it and Shami’s performance in the tournament. She replied saying that she was happy for India and said that she was not worried about how Shami performed in the tournament. Since then, there has been a huge outrage over her on the internet.
