Australian skipper Pat Cummins wins Player of the Month award for December
Australian skipper Pat Cummins will next be seen during the two-match Test series against West Indies.
On Tuesday, January 16, the Apex Cricket Council announced the winners for December 2023. Pat Cummins’ outstanding bowling during the 3-0 Test series victory over Pakistan earned him the Men’s Player of the Month title. Deepti Sharma from India won the title in the women’s division. When facing Australia and England, she was at her best.
Facing Pakistan during the second Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Cummins claimed ten wickets. With his leadership and bowling prowess, Cummins was instrumental in Australia’s Test victory over Pakistan in December 2023. Australia had already won their sixth Men’s Cricket World Cup previously in the year and their maiden World Test Championship.
The team’s second Test triumph against Pakistan in Melbourne served as the high point of another outstanding month for Cummins. The bowler claimed 10 wickets during the game, including a sensational spell just as the suspenseful conclusion was drawing near.
The Australian skipper spoke after winning the accolade as he said, “It has been a good year for Australia across formats, and it was nice to finish with a strong performance against Pakistan. We were pleased with our performances and are looking forward to the upcoming games against the West Indies and New Zealand.”
To win the December award, Cummins defeated fellow Test players Taijul Islam of Bangladesh as well as Glenn Phillips of New Zealand, while Sharma triumphed against colleague Jemimah Rodrigues and Zimbabwe’s Precious Marange.
