‘Asli winner to scriptwriters hain’- Twitter buzzing as LSG defeat league leaders RR on back of sensational bowling performance in IPL 2023
LSG move to second on the IPL 2023 points table after this win.
In a thrilling encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, LSG prevailed over RR by 10 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday, April 19th. LSG, who were asked to bat first, posted a challenging total of 154/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
The LSG openers, KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers, got their team off to a solid start, putting on a 62-run stand for the first wicket. Rahul scored 39 off 32 balls while Mayers played a brilliant innings of 51 off 42 balls. Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran also played important knocks of 21 and 29 respectively to take LSG to a competitive total.
In reply, RR got off to a flying start as their openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler, put on a 87-run partnership for the first wicket. Jaiswal was particularly aggressive, scoring 44 off 35 balls while Buttler played a more sedate innings of 40 off 41 balls.
However, the momentum shifted in LSG’s favour when Stoinis and Avesh Khan struck to dismiss Jaiswal and Buttler respectively. RR’s middle order failed to capitalize on the strong start, with Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer getting dismissed cheaply.
All came down to Riyan Parag and Devdutt Padikkal but the two youngsters failed to take their team home as both got out cheaply under pressure.
Avesh Khan was the star of the show for LSG, holding his nerve in the final over to pick up two wickets and seal the victory for his team. With this win, LSG moved to 2nd on the table with 8 points, while RR remained on top with 8 points but with a better net run rate.
It was a thrilling encounter between two top teams in the IPL. LSG’s batsmen set up a challenging total, while their bowlers did well to restrict RR’s strong batting lineup. Avesh Khan’s excellent bowling in the final over proved to be the difference between the two teams, as LSG emerged victorious in a closely-fought contest.
