Shreyas Iyer, the middle-order batter of India, was recently selected to take part in the Asia Cup 2023, marking his return from injuries. He had been dealing with a back problem for quite some time before deciding to get surgery, which prevented him from playing in crucial cricket tournaments like the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) final and the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The main cause of the team announcement’s delay was KL Rahul and Shreyas’ state of fitness. Before choosing the squad members for the next six-team continental championship, the selection committee had to be certain of their recuperation.

It is believed that Shreyas is the best person to resolve Team India’s existing No. 4 problem. Following the last World Cup, the right-handed hitter has mastered the batting position and will return to the playing XI with ease now that he is totally healthy.

As per regulation, the pair took part in a match simulation in Bangalore to demonstrate their fitness. The Times of India said that Shreyas scored 199 runs during the practice game and then played 50 overs of fielding to demonstrate his fitness in front of selectors.

The source spoke to Times of India who has been following the recovery of Shreyas Iyer. The source said, “He smashed the bowlers at the National Cricket Academy, scoring 199 in a practice tie. To provide the selectors with more evidence of his fitness, he then fielded for the entire 50 overs of that match, which was held at the Just Cricket Academy in Bangalore 3-4 days back.”

The source added, “For the past two months, he has been stationed at the NCA in Bangalore, focusing on his recovery. It’s all come together nicely for him.”

The batter has had back problems for a very long time. During the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he missed Team India’s opening Test match against Australia, allowing Suryakumar Yadav to earn his Test debut.
