The Asia Cup 2022 is all set to begin in a few days as six heavyweight Asian giants get ready to compete against each other. The tournament will have many star players giving their all on the field to come on top against their opponents. Among the many star performers, only one will be able to have his hands on the coveted ‘Player of the tournament award’. On that note, let’s take a look at five strong contenders for ‘Player of the Tournament’ award in the upcoming Asia cup:

1) Shakib Al Hasan

Shakib al Hasan has been a star player in the Bangladesh squad for a long time. The all-rounder never fails to give his valuable contribution to the team with both bat and ball. The big stages often bring out the best in Shakib as he was seen in his beast mode during the 2019 ODI world cup. The 35-year-old scored 606 runs and picked up 11 wickets becoming the first player in world cup history to score 400+ runs and pick up 10 wickets.

Shakib has been going through a dip in his form off late and Asia Cup will be the perfect stage for him to bring his A-game to the fore.

2) Wanindu Hasaranga

Hasaranga has burst onto the scene as a T20 specialist bowler in recent times. He was the second-highest wicket-taker in this year’s Indian T20 League where he picked up 26 wickets at an average of 16.53. After being knocked out in the first stage itself in the last edition of the Asia Cup, Sri Lanka will be desperate to put up an improved show this year. Hasaranga will be a key player for Sri Lanka and will be one of the contenders for the ‘Player of the Tournament’.

3) Suryakumar Yadav

Since making his international debut last year, Suryakumar Yadav has been taking giant strides in T20 internationals. He recently became the fifth Indian batter to score a T20I hundred as he plundered a magnificent 117 off just 55 balls against England. His stupendous performances have seen him rise to the second spot in the men’s T20I batters rankings. SKY is just 13 rating points behind Babar Azam who is at the top.

The Asia cup will be the perfect opportunity for Suryakumar to take the no 1 spot and also become the player of the tournament.

4) Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan is one of the most valuable T20 players in the world. Apart from bamboozling the batters with his spin variations, Rashid can also be a handy batter lower down the order and score crucial runs for his team.

Afghanistan put up an incredible show in last year’s Asia cup as they knocked out Sri Lanka and had a tied game against India. They will be looking to put up an even better performance this time around. Rashid Khan will once again be a key player for the Afghan team along and will have his eyes set on the Player of the Tournament.
