India and Australia are going to face each other in a 3-match ODI series starting on 22nd September. The Indian Cricket Board made some strange calls while announcing their team for the Australia series Recently, India won their 8th Asia Cup title after a magnificent victory against Sri Lanka in the final.
Ajit Agarkar revealed the two squads in order to provide adequate rest to the senior members of the Indian team. KL Rahul has been adjudged as the captain of the side in the absence of skipper Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are rested for the first two matches.
Senior off-spinner Ravi Ashwin has been named in the team. He would be looking to prove his mantle to the team management. According to various rumours, India may offer Ashwin a chance to play in the forthcoming ODI World Cup as Axar Patel’s participation is questionable due to an injury.

The Delhi Capitals player last participated in an ODI in January 2022, and he will make his return in little under 18 months. At the press conference, Team India skipper Rohit Sharma stated that he has been in constant touch with Ashwin following the Asia Cup 2023 final.
He said, “Look with the kind of experience Ashwin has. He has played close to 100 Test matches, and close to 150 ODIs. Yes it’s in the past but he has consistently been playing Test cricket. With guys like Ashwin, having time on the ground is not so much of a concern which is why we thought if he’s an option for us, we’ll have to get him in. So the games against Australia will give us a chance to look at where he’s at, how he’s bowling and how his body is feeling and things like that.”
