India cricketers, Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer are set to join the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Talking about the former, he has missed the game since last September. This led to him missing out on the 20-20 World Cup 2022 and is currently missing the ongoing IPL 2023. Bumrah was looking like making his comeback in January this year but nothing materialized.

The board and team management didn’t want to risk his stress fracture which the team management did last year. Meanwhile, at the same time, Iyer developed a lower back injury ahead of the ODI series against New Zealand. The right-hander did make his comeback in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but the injury reaggravated during the last game. Since then, he has been missing the game

Like Bumrah, Iyer has also been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League. The latter has been replaced as captain by Nitish Rana who is in great form with the bat for Kolkata Knight Riders. On the other hand, Bumrah’s replacement, Sandeep Warrior is yet to play a game for Mumbai Indians.

Jasprit Bumrah has undergone surgery while Shreyas Iyer is scheduled

In a medical update uploaded by the Indian Cricket Board on their website, Bumrah has undergone back surgery in New Zealand. On the other hand, Iyer will undergo the same next week.

“Mr Jasprit Bumrah underwent surgery in New Zealand on his lower back, which was successful and he remains pain-free. The fast bowler was advised by the specialist to start his rehab six weeks after the surgery and accordingly, Mr Bumrah has commenced his rehab management at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru from Friday,” read the release from the Indian Cricket Board.

“Mr Shreyas Iyer is scheduled to undergo surgery for his lower back issue next week. He will remain under the surgeon’s care for two weeks and will return to the NCA after that for rehabilitation,” it informed further.
