West Indies cricket powerhouse, Kieron Pollard, has made a surprising move into coaching, joining the English coaching staff for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. With the tournament scheduled to take place in June 2024, co-hosted by West Indies and the United States of America, England is gearing up to defend their T20 World Champions title, secured in 2022 against Pakistan.

Despite England’s recent loss in a five-match T20I series to West Indies, the inclusion of the former West Indian captain, Kieron Pollard, brings a wealth of T20 experience to the coaching setup. Known for his stellar performances in the T20 format, Pollard has been a key player for the West Indies and has achieved legendary status in franchise cricket.

The announcement of Pollard’s coaching role was officially confirmed by the English Board on Sunday. The 36-year-old cricketer will serve as an assistant coach for the 2024 T20 World Cup, offering his expertise on local conditions in the West Indies and the United States. The move is seen as a strategic effort to acclimate the English team to the specific challenges of the tournament.

Although Kieron Pollard retired from international cricket in 2022, he remains an active figure in the cricketing world, participating in various franchise leagues globally. Notably, he is also associated with the Mumbai Indians as a batting coach, contributing to the team’s success with five IPL titles.

Throughout his T20I career, Pollard played 101 games for West Indies, amassing 1569 runs, including six half-centuries, at a striking rate of 135. His aggressive style is reflected in his 94 fours and 99 sixes. Additionally, Pollard showcased his bowling prowess, claiming 42 wickets with a best of 4/25 and an economy rate of 8.32 runs per over.
