David Silva, one of the most unsung football heroes for Manchester City, has declared his retirement from the game. Silva just sustained a catastrophic injury while working out with Atletico Madrid and has opted to retire.

One of the first well-known players that joined Manchester City on their march to the top was the left-footed wizard, who established himself at Valencia. The Spanish international claimed in a video posted to Instagram and said, “Today is a sad day for me. Today I decide to say goodbye to what I dedicated my whole life to. Today is the time to say goodbye to my colleagues, who are like family to me. I will miss you very much.”

 With Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, and Cesc Fabregas in the Spain midfield, Silva, one of the best creative players of the contemporary period, stood out. Silva won the FIFA World Cup, two UEFA Euros, four Premier League titles, and two FA Cups, adding to his collection of gleaming trophies.

He made 125 appearances for Spain, contributing 32 assists and 35 goals. Additionally, the Spaniard played 436 times with the Cityzens, tallying 77 goals and 140 assists. Whenever the ball was at David Silva’s feet, he was a wizard. The Spaniard is a great showman when it comes to the beautiful game and has generated many brilliant moments.

Pep Guardiola’s word of praise for David Silva

Silva was once referred to by famous Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola as the most creative player he had ever seen, despite the fact that Silva has been managed by numerous elite creative players over the course of his successful coaching career. 

Silva, according to Guardiola (via Outlook India), “The level he is having, I think, is the best of this season. He’s playing really, really good. Okay, the fans are not here, but he’s coming back to make the farewell game in front of the fans.”
