Many former cricketers have opined in the past few weeks that Kohli doesn’t deserve a place in the team anymore and should be replaced by a talented youngster, especially in T20 internationals.

On that note, let’s take a look at possible replacements for Virat Kohli in the squad for the 20-20 world cup:

Suryakumar Yadav had been knocking on the doors of the selectors for a long time as he shined in the Indian T20 League one season after the other. ‘SKY’, as he’s lovingly called by his fans, has grabbed every opportunity he’s got at the international level with both hands. The batter took the cricketing fraternity by storm when he announced his arrival in international cricket in grand fashion as he hooked a speedy bouncer by Jofra Archer for a humungous six.

In his 17 T20 innings so far, the right-handed batter has scored 537 runs at an average of 38.36 and a magnificent strike rate of 177 with 4 fifties and 1 century to his name. The batter recently left the fans awestruck with his stupendous strokeplay as he plundered 117 runs off just 55 balls, smashing 14 fours and six gigantic sixes in the third T20I against England.

2. Deepak Hooda:

The new kid on the block, Deepak Hooda has also made huge statements with his performances in the early phase of his T20I career. The 27-year-old impressed the selectors with his scintillating strokeplay on the tour of Ireland. He became the fourth Indian batter to score a hundred in T20 internationals after scoring a brilliant 104 in the second T20I at Dublin. In his six outings for the Indian team so far in T20I, the batter has scored 205 runs at an average of 68 and a strike rate of 172 respectively. Being a spin all-rounder, Hooda can even chip in with a few overs if needed by the team providing the much-needed balance to the team.

3. Sanju Samson :

Sanju Samson has been one of the most consistent performers in the Indian T20 League over the years. The wicketkeeper batter was once again seen at his usual best in the recent season where he plundered 458 runs in 17 innings with a strike rate of 146, including two half centuries to his name. Samson was instrumental in giving the impetus to the Rajasthan innings in the middle overs more often than not which set them up for a blistering finish in the death overs.

He even led the Rajasthan franchise to the finals of the tournament this year after 14 years. The batter only got one opportunity to play after the league and scored a blistering 77 off 42 balls against Ireland in the second T20I. If given more chances, Samson could turn out to be an important match-winner in the tournament.
